This is not an ordinary run of the mill testing job. This is not a job for people who are scared of learning and challenges! We are looking for people with a passion for testing and solving technical problems from a quality and testing perspective. This is a hands-on role that requires the test specialist to deliver and not delegate. We need individuals who will be eager to become product experts, with the skills to be a shrewd investigator, a resourceful problem-solver, and a supportive team member. The test team is quickly becoming a hub of technical information that is sought by the design teams and the support teams; we want you to help us maintain that reputation. Are you up for the challenge?

Responsibilities

Technical Tasks

  • Take ownership of various verification and validation activities throughout all stages of product development
  • Work closely with the development team to understand system design in order to effectively design, develop, and execute test ideas
  • Complete documentation for test protocols, results, and reports
  • Use session-based test techniques to provide early testing feedback throughout the design and development process
  • Create release-specific test plans and manage regression test suites that evolve as the product changes over time
  • Participate in the assessment of potential product hazards and devise appropriate tests to verify mitigation of identified risks
  • Develop and conduct user acceptance testing with representative users and clinical evaluators
  • Set up and maintain test environments utilizing both physical and virtual hardware
  • Identify areas where testing can be automated; develop automation scripts and tools
  • Accurately report and track product defects using industry-standard tools
  • Verify fixes for product defects while ensuring other areas of product functionality aren’t compromised
  • Work together with the service team to investigate and resolve customer issues

Non-Technical Tasks

  • Work closely with multiple teams to ensure quality and timely product delivery
  • Participate in daily scrum meetings

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of professional software testing experience in an organization working on new product development
  • Strong foundation in computers and technology (operating systems, hardware components, networking)

Highly Beneficial

  • Experience testing distributed systems employing client-server architectures and web-based user interfaces
  • Administrator-level experience with virtualization hypervisors (e.g. VMware)
  • Experience writing and executing automated test suites

Beneficial

  • Experience in the design, development, and testing of medical devices

Interpersonal Skills

  • Friendly and positive attitude
  • Self-motivated and self-managing
  • Ability to work in a highly-technical, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to seek out additional information when sufficient input is lacking to proceed with testing
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively even when presenting product issues to owners of product’s design and architecture
  • Ability to take ownership of a problem and see it through resolution while utilizing help from others

Organizational Considerations

Looking for a person who enjoys solving technical problems within a fast-paced environment while following the quality development processes that are essential to the creation of medical devices and applications. While the work is plentiful and challenging, the atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed; a sense of humour is always appreciated. And while employees are encouraged to never feel shy about asking questions, being respectful of other team members’ schedules is important.
